Old Ways: A Framework for Decolonizing Advocacy in Indigenous Communities

This session explores innovative and promising practices to understand and interrupt gender violence in Indigenous communities uplifting old practices rejuvenated and adapted for contemporary settings including storytelling, culture, and language. Participants will engage with “decolonization” and “Indigenization” as concepts to incorporate in their current advocacy practices. Violence adversely affects Indigenous communities, requiring us to be intentional about centering our work and efforts on Indigenous ways of knowing to disrupt the systems of oppression that perpetuate the violence.
