2022 Pre-Conference Institute

Space is limited

CAIA is more than just the conference this year! Join us for the 2022 Pre-Conference Institute: Dialogue at the Intersections of Deaf Culture, Racial Identity and Language Access.

This is a rare opportunity for programs to learn more about the intersections of Deaf culture, racial identities, domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault and language access. Leaders at Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services/The National Deaf Hotline, Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Deaf DAWN,DeafHope and DOVE will elevate the unique experiences of providing culturally specific services for the Deaf community by the Deaf community.  As Leaders of Color, speakers will also amplify the ways that race and Deafness impact one another.

Participants will spend the day in panel presentations by local and national leadership, in small group discussions with individual leaders and in dialogue with programs from across Colorado. Advocates from the hearing community have a responsibility to create a culture of accountability and inclusion. Together, we will work to de-center hearing culture in our shared advocacy, explore the ways we think about power, expand our definitions of “language access,” identify gaps in current programming and create opportunities for reciprocal collaboration that can begin to fill them.

The Pre-Institute Conference is a full-day learning opportunity in addition to your CAIA Conference registration, so please follow the instructions provided below to register.
